Att tillverka whisky är i grunden väldigt likt hur man tillverkar öl. Men istället för malt, humle, jäst och vatten jobbar man utan humle och med en något annorlunda process. Man tar moget korn och blötlägger det i vatten i några dagar.

Då man brukar vilja ha en konsekvent smak och färg på olika märkens standardwhisky blandas ofta whisky från olika fat, och åldern som står på flaskan är alltid den från det yngsta fatet. Det är också vanligt att kylfiltrera whiskyn samt att färgsätta den med sockerkulör.

Idag jobbar jag som Brand Ambassador för SMWS, The Scotch Malt Whisky Society, med ansvar for Sverige och medlemmarna här. Man tillverkar whisky i sex steg. De fem första är: Mältning, mäskning, jäsning, destillering och lagring på fat. När man slutligen, i steg sex, buteljerar whiskyn så avbryter man själva mognnadsprocessen.
